About Culina

The home for your cooking.

Culina is a recipe app for the way people actually collect recipes today — from reels, links, screenshots and family memory — built by a small independent team in India.

What we make

Culina is a mobile app that turns scattered recipes into a personal cookbook you actually cook from. You can save a recipe from an Instagram reel, a YouTube video or any web link; photograph a cookbook page; describe an idea and let AI draft the dish; or plan several meals at once with Meal Prep. Every recipe becomes the same clean format — ingredients, short numbered steps, timers, servings — with calories, protein, carbs and fat estimated per serving from a curated ingredient database.

When it's time to cook, Cook Mode shows one step at a time with built-in timers that ring when done, and ingredient quantities that scale to your servings. Recipes and cookbooks can be shared with a simple culinaapp.in link, and a light social layer — profiles, follows, a curated “Recommended by Culina” shelf — helps good food travel without turning dinner into a feed.

Why we're building it

Great recipes now live in thirty-second videos and camera rolls, where they're impossible to cook from twice. And for millions of home cooks, the first question about any dish is one most apps ignore: can I eat this? Culina answers both. It gives every recipe a permanent, cookable home, and tags each one honestly — veg, vegan, egg or non-veg, a Jain-friendly flag, and declared allergens — derived from verified ingredients, never guessed.

How it's built

Culina is a Flutter app backed by our own API on Google Cloud (Compute Engine, asia-south1) with Firebase for authentication, media storage, analytics and crash reporting, and Google's Gemini models for recipe understanding and generation. Nutrition data builds on the USDA FoodData Central catalog, curated and extended for Indian kitchens.

Who we are

We're a small, independent, self-funded team building Culina from India — cooks first, engineers second. We read every piece of feedback that comes through the app.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Culina?

A mobile app that collects your recipes in one place. Paste an Instagram or YouTube link, upload a screenshot, describe an idea to the AI, or plan a whole week with Meal Prep — Culina turns each into a clean, structured recipe with ingredients, steps, timers and estimated nutrition, ready to cook step by step.

Is it free?

Yes — Culina is free to start, including imports, AI creation and Cook Mode.

Which platforms does it run on?

Android first (coming to Google Play), with iOS planned. The web serves shared recipes, cookbooks and profiles so links you send open for everyone.

How does the AI part work?

Culina uses Google's Gemini models to read a link, photo or prompt and draft a complete recipe against our curated ingredient catalog, so nutrition can be computed honestly. Every AI draft opens for your review before it's saved — nothing is published without you.

How do the veg / non-veg and allergen tags work?

Tags are derived from the recipe's ingredients using our verified catalog — never guessed. If Culina can't verify every ingredient, the recipe simply shows no badge rather than a wrong one.

What happens to my data?

Your recipes and drafts are private by default; you choose what to publish. The details are in our Privacy Policy, and you can reach us any time at support@culinaapp.in.
